Why Your Herbs Died in the Kitchen

Kitchen herbs die from overwatering, not enough light, or cold. Basil is the most common casualty. Water less, light more, keep warm.

Kitchen herbs fail for predictable reasons. Fix the 3 main ones and they thrive.

The 3 Killers

Killer 1: Overwatering

Sign: Yellow leaves, wet soil, root rot. Fix: Water when top inch is dry.

Killer 2: Not Enough Light

Sign: Leggy, pale, slow growth. Fix: 6+ hours, or grow light.

Killer 3: Cold

Sign: Basil blackens, others stall. Fix: Keep above 60°F.

The Fix

  1. Water less. Not on a schedule.
  2. More light. South window or grow light.
  3. Warmth. 65-70°F.
  4. Airflow. Small fan.
  5. Drainage. Holes in pot.
