Day 1: 4 Pots on a 3x3 Balcony
I set up 4 pots on my 3x3 foot balcony today. Here’s my layout, what I planted, and my concerns.
My balcony faces south. 6 hours of direct sun. Good conditions.

- Cherry tomato (5-gallon pot, staked)
- Mini sweet pepper (3-gallon pot)
- Basil (1-gallon pot)
- Lettuce (1-gallon pot)
My Setup
- 4 pots with drainage
- Saucers underneath
- Potting mix + compost
- Bamboo stake for tomato
My Concerns
- Wind on the balcony might dry out the pots fast
- The 5-gallon pot weighs a lot — is the balcony rated for this?
- Will the tomato get enough sun?
What I Did Right
Checked the balcony weight limit before buying pots. Used the biggest pots I could afford.
