Day 12: The Cilantro Died. The Basil Thrived.
The cilantro died on day 10. The basil is thriving. Here’s what I think went wrong and what I’m doing differently.
What Happened to the Cilantro
It sprouted on day 8. Two days later, it collapsed at the soil line. The stem was pinched and thin.
I looked it up. Damping off. Too much water, not enough airflow.
What’s Thriving
The basil. It sprouted in 5 days and is now 3 inches tall. Strong stem. Dark green leaves.
What I’m Doing Differently
- Added a small fan near the pots
- Bottom watering only
- Removed the dead cilantro immediately
What I Learned
Cilantro is more finicky than basil. Next time, I’ll plant it in a separate pot with better airflow.
