Day 14: I Thinned the Lettuce and Felt Bad
I thinned the lettuce today. It felt wrong to kill healthy seedlings. But I did it. Here’s what happened and what I learned.
The lettuce pot had 5 seedlings. I left 2. The other 3 got snipped at soil level with scissors.
Why I Did It
The ZOMAE guide said crowded seedlings compete for light and water. None thrive. I trusted the guide.
What It Felt Like
Awful. They looked healthy. I felt like I was killing babies.
What I Ate
The thinned lettuce leaves. They were tiny but tasted like lettuce. I felt slightly better.
What I Noticed
Two days later, the remaining seedlings doubled in size. The guide was right.
What I Learned
Thinning feels wrong but works. The plants I kept are stronger for it.
