Day 30: I Counted 11 Bee Species
Day 30 of my pollinator patch. I counted 11 bee species. I didn’t know there were 11 in my neighborhood.

- Marigolds (peak)
- Zinnias (first blooms)
- Cosmos (budding)
The Bee Count
I sat for 30 minutes and counted. 11 species. From tiny sweat bees to big carpenter bees.
What Surprised Me
The variety. I thought “bees” meant honeybees. There are so many more.
What I Learned
- Bloom succession works. Something new opens every week.
- Poor soil is fine. They don’t need rich soil.
- Bare soil matters. Ground-nesting bees need it.
- Patience pays. It took 30 days.
What’s Next
The cosmos will bloom next week. I’ll count again.
