Day 65: 47 Tomatoes from 4 Pots
65 days. 4 pots. 47 cherry tomatoes. Here’s the full harvest and what I learned about small space gardening.
The Full Harvest
- Cherry tomatoes: 47 (and 15 more green on the plant)
- Pepper: 3 (small but sweet)
- Basil: Continuous harvest since day 50
- Lettuce: 6 weeks of outer leaf harvest
What I Learned
- 5-gallon pots are the minimum. Anything smaller dries out too fast.
- Hand-pollination is essential on high balconies.
- Wind is a bigger problem than sun.
- Basil is the perfect companion for tomatoes.
- Peppers are slower than tomatoes.
What I’d Do Differently
- Planted the pepper earlier
- Added a second tomato plant
- Used a self-watering pot for the tomato
What’s Next
Adding a second 5-gallon pot. Maybe the Bee-Friendly kit for the other side of the balcony.
