I Planted 12 Zucchini. I Regret Everything.
I planted 12 zucchini plants. I now have 400 zucchini. Here’s what I learned about overplanting.
What I Did
The seed packet said “plant 3-4 seeds per hill.” I planted 12 hills. Because more is better, right?
What Happened
Every single plant produced. 6-10 fruits per plant. Over 6-8 weeks.
That’s 70-120 zucchini. At any given moment.
What I Did With Them
- Ate them
- Grilled them
- Baked zucchini bread
- Gave them to neighbors
- Left them on coworkers’ desks
- Froze 30 pounds
- Still had 20 left
What I Learned
One zucchini plant feeds a family. Two is plenty. Twelve is a mistake.
What I’d Do Differently
Plant 2. Maybe 3 if I want to freeze some.
