A Retired Couple’s First Garden at 67

A retired couple grew their first garden at 67. They started with the First Harvest Kit. Here’s what they learned.

Tom and Linda retired in 2024. They’d never grown anything. They started with a ZOMAE kit.

Their Setup

  • 5 pots on a patio
  • South-facing, 6+ hours of sun
  • Watering can

What They Grew

  • Radishes
  • Lettuce
  • Basil
  • Beans
  • Zucchini

Their Harvest

  • 18 radishes
  • 8 weeks of lettuce
  • 3 cups of basil
  • 40 bean pods
  • 6 zucchini

What They Learned

  1. Watering is the hardest part. They overwatered at first.
  2. Radishes are the best confidence-builder.
  3. Zucchini is too productive. They gave most away.
  4. It’s never too late to start.

What Tom Said

“I was a lawyer for 40 years. I never made anything with my hands. Now I make tomatoes.”

What Linda Said

“We check the garden every morning with coffee. It’s our new routine.”
