Day 30: I Haven’t Bought Herbs in 2 Weeks

I’ve been harvesting my windowsill herbs for 2 weeks. I haven’t bought herbs at the store since. Here’s what’s working.

What I’m Harvesting

  • Basil: Daily. Cut above a leaf node. It keeps growing.
  • Parsley: Every 3 days. Outer stems.
  • Chives: Every 2 weeks. Cut to 2 inches.
  • Dill: Every 3 days. Outer stems.
  • Cilantro: Replanted. Small but alive.

What I’ve Cooked

  • Pesto (first time, from my basil)
  • Salads with fresh dill
  • Omelets with chives
  • Pasta with parsley

What I’ve Learned

  1. Basil is the most productive.
  2. Parsley is the slowest.
  3. Chives are the easiest.
  4. Cilantro is the hardest.
  5. Fresh herbs really do taste better.

What’s Next

Succession planting. I want a continuous supply.
