My Spring Garden: What Worked, What Didn’t
My full spring garden review. What worked, what failed, and what I’ll do differently in fall.
What Worked
- Radishes: 25 days, perfect.
- Lettuce: 6 weeks of harvest.
- Peas: Great until it got hot.
- Kale: Produced all season.
- Bush beans: 30 pods per plant.
What Didn’t Work
- Cilantro: Bolted in 3 weeks.
- Spinach: Bolted in May.
- Broccoli: Buttoned (small heads).
What I Learned
- Spring is for cool-season crops. Plant them early.
- Warm-season crops need to wait. Plant after last frost.
- Succession planting is key. Every 2 weeks.
- Shade matters. Afternoon shade helps cool-season crops.
What I’ll Do Differently in Fall
- Plant more kale, less spinach.
- Start broccoli earlier.
- Skip cilantro until fall.
